Hello and welcome to a new episode of Two Fat Expats where we believe in living a fat expat life.

Expats across the globe have been hit hard with the fall in oil prices and the knock on effect it’s had on other industries. Redundancy in the expat world is incredibly tough. Not only have you lost your job, but you will have to leave your home, pull your children out of school, say goodbye to friends and start a new life in a new location.

Sarah shares her story of redundancy in Abu Dhabi and Qatarization in Doha. We also speak to Taryn who started an expat adventure with her husband and children due to redundancy in her home country of Australia.

Qatar like many other expat locations has been hit hard with redundancy and the rate of suicide has increased in 2016 due to many expats losing their jobs with heavy debts to pay. You can read more about this heartbreaking story here, here and here.

We share tips on how to survive redundancy and what financial measures you should have in place.
